The USS Radiance (NCC-76418) was a 24th century Federation Intrepid-class starship operated by Starfleet. Under Captain Jonathan Sumpter, the vessel has participated in many missions in both the Cardassian Union and along the Romulan Neutral Zone. A part of Section 42, it was an integral part of Project Deucalion between 2381 and 2386.
It is presently commanded by Captain Halaris Imorious, having taken command in 2386.
Commissioned by Rear Admiral Nicholai, the USS Radiance was launched in 2378 under Captain Jonathan Sumpter. She left drydock from the San Francisco Fleet Yards on Stardate 54946.14 on her maiden voyage.
The Radiance spent about a month providing post-war medical assistance in the Cardassian Union.
Afterward they were sent on a three month assignment to monitor the Romulan Neutral Zone. While there, they spent time at Rutia IV to assist in the capture of the leader of a terrorist group called the Matirá, and serve as protection to government leaders after several had been removed by the group. The Radiance also was part of a joint mission of resettlement of the Federation outpost on Tarod IX with the USS Pendragon, USS Lancelot and USS Lionel.
Later that year, the Radiance was assigned a rotation with Mortuary Affairs in th Chin'toku system.
The Radiance spent a month on a rebuilding rotation to Betazed, and three months rotation in the Cardassian Union. After a three month transportation mission to 15 Lyncis Starbase, and back, she was assigned back to the Cardassian Union. The three month mission was cut short, however. During a skirmish with a group of Jem'Hadar soldiers that had been stranded in the Briar Patch, they lost several members of the crew. They returned to Earth for a shoreleave, and to pick up several new crew members.
After shipping back out, the Radiance went on a search and rescue mission to the Tzenkethi Coalition and a salvage mission on Tammeron.
During another three month tour of the Cardassian Union, the Radiance participated in a joint Cardassian Agricultural Base restoration mission with the USS Badlands and the USS Harmon. The Radiance ran across the same Jem'Hadar special ops team they had lost the battle to previously. This time, they captured them, and the Changeling assassin, Jora, that was with them.
At the end of the year they were assigned to assist in various ways with the Andak Project. After a shoreleave on Earth, the Radiance started another three month tour of the Cardassian Union, and their mission to help the Andak Project. During that time, the crew went on a search and rescue mission on Olmerak, rescuing most of the survivors of a crashed cargo vessel, and arresting a member of the True Way, while killing two others. By the end of the tour of duty, the Radiance went on a successful artifact retrieval mission to the Ferengi Alliance, returning two major Cardassian artifacts, and on Bajoran artifact to their homes.
In 2380, after another shoreleave to Earth, the Radiance went on a training mission to Barradas III. After a three month tour of duty to the Romulan Neutral Zone, the Radiance returned to the Cardassian Union for another three months, and the Andak Project.
During another three month tour of duty in the Neutral Zone, the Radiance was called to the Mu Arae System. The Arae Colony was notorious for housing pirates and smugglers. Members of the crew participated in a raid where they retrieved many items, including stolen Borg technology. Soon after, they located a hidden Jem'Hadar facility, and moved survivors to the Nimuth Refugee Colony on D'luc V. Later, the Radiance responded to a distress call from the Federation Science Station on Calder II.
The Radiance started off the year with a technology retrieval mission on Nimbus III. The away team ended up rescuing the smugglers and destroying the stolen Borg technology could do damage.
In mid-2381, the Radiance was assigned, along with several other vessels, to Project Deucalion. The project's purpose was to relocated the people of the planet Alor, The Alora. The crews were assigned to various teams involved in building on the new world, and setting up two Starfleet bases tied to the new location on D'luc VI.
Near the end of the year, the Radiance served as diplomatic transport for Ovida Ushighi, the Starfleet diplomat working with the Rutians who hoped to join the United Federation of Planets in the near future.
The Radiance crew spent most of the year working with the Alora on Project Deucalion.At one point, the ship was temporarily assigned as the headquarters for Ovida's Diplomatic Detachment during negotiations with the En'ali of D'luc VII.
